Devin Watson, Football, talks to us about the importance of a team and how those around us are our biggest supporters in both athletics and the gospel. Prayer brings all of us together and helps us build a bond to succeed.
Welcome back everyone to On the Path. Thanks for everyone for tuning in last week and listening to Emma Hillam and her story. And it truly was an inspiring story that helps us understand what it takes to overcome trials and to be more involved as a team. Super excited for this week's episode. Today I'm going to introduce our guest. His name is Devin Watson. Devin Watson is a junior here at SVU and he is studying biochemistry and he is on the football team. Devin comes from Utah. He's from West Jordan, Utah. And today we're going to talk a little bit about his journey in football and how he got here and how he continues to keep Christ as Christ in the center of his life. So Devin, welcome. We're happy to have you guys.
SPEAKER_01Thanks for having me. I appreciate it. It's going to be fun.
SPEAKER_00First question I kind of have for you today is I'm going to have you kind of describe to us how you got into football and then just kind of how that went on, how you led to how it led you here to SBU.
SPEAKER_01I've always wanted to play football. I've always wanted to play anything with the ball. I played four sports in high school, but football, I've played for the least amount of time, I think. I had a friend, a friend of mine, Larson, he had to convince my mom to let me put the pads on, finally. But once I got into it, you know, couldn't get out of it. And so I went to Summit Academy High School in Utah, played four years there, and before coming to SVU, I did a year in junior college at a school in Rochester, Minnesota, called RCTC. Followed some high school teammates out there, played a semester out there, and then for the next season came out here to SVU and the rest is history. It's been fun. It's been awesome to be here.
SPEAKER_00That's awesome. And explain to us how this season has gone for you and the team because we've seen we've seen a different kind of success here at SVU. I don't think they've ever seen this many wins in a season. So kind of explain to us your team aspect and how you guys are working together to have this success.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's been so awesome to see the turnaround. I think one of the biggest things is one of our seniors and our leaders who've decided to stick it out for us through through thick and thin, and most of it's been thick, you know what I'm saying? And uh troubles for them and struggles. Um but then we have a great group of surrounding guys that stuck it out in the spring. I think we only had like 40 guys stick around in the spring. But uh it's it's those guys that stayed bought in and helped the freshmen this year to come in and recognize that you know last season was last season, and this season can be something totally new. So um, and it has been. It's been awesome, it's been a great success, and uh we hope to rack off one more. We'd love to finish seven and three and not six and four, but yeah, you know, whatever happens, happens, and uh we can't hang our heads too too much on the success that we've had.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, that's awesome. That's so good to hear. And um, if I'm right, you're quarterback, right? Yeah, so you're kind of you're a big part, a big leader on the team, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00How how do you take um how do you like this role? Like, um, how do you what what do you do to help others succeed as the the quarterback on the team?
SPEAKER_01Um I think well to answer the first part, like I love the role. I love the role of quarterback. I'm not athletic enough to play anything else. Um so quarterback's a great fit for me. But um it's a blessing to to be able to try and lead and be an example for everybody. Um because as a quarterback, you're forced to be a leader no matter what, no matter uh if if you're you know good at quarterback, if you're bad at quarterback, if if you don't, if you're in an offense that doesn't throw the ball, you're a leader no matter what.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And so um it's a blessing to just take on that challenge. And because that's that's definitely shaped me to who I am today, all those years of playing quarterback and leading teams for so many years, like um, I definitely wouldn't be who I am without it. Um so yeah, I forgot the second part of your question, I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00It's okay. Um how you help others on the team as quarterback. Like what what's kind of your approach um being a leader on the team?
SPEAKER_01Um definitely by example. I'm not a very vocal guy. Um like I think those that know me, like I'm very I'm very chill, very relaxed, like outside of football. Um and so I I definitely like to lead by example, and that's like um showing guys that I know what I'm doing, showing guys that I know what they're doing, because I need to know what all 22 guys on the field are potentially gonna be doing it at any given point in time, and so um, but also you know, leading with hustle, um, leading with um you know good energy in the weight room and and practice, and hopefully that hopefully that picks up another guy start doing it, and then it's a whole team that does it, so that's where your success comes. That's awesome. It's a chain reaction, not just not just me.
SPEAKER_00No, that really is awesome. It's really important for us to to lead by example. It's the same thing in the gospel, right? For sure. We can't tell someone to do something if we're not doing it ourselves. Absolutely. Um another question we're gonna stick on the topic of football. Obviously, as a football player, you watch football, right? You have those athletes you love. You I'm sure you probably participate in fantasy football, right? Absolutely, I've got a couple teams. Exactly. Um so growing up or when you first got into football, who was a person you looked up to? Who did you want to be?
SPEAKER_01Tom Brady. Okay. Yep, not even close. Someone asked me last night, actually, we were driving driving home from the SVU girls game, and and someone asked me, they were like, if you uh if you could meet anybody, like who would you meet? Like, who would take your breath away? And that was my answer, right? I was like, Tom Brady. And she responded, she was like, wow, that was really fast. I was like, Yeah, it's Tom Brady, no doubt about it. Um I think he's uh a great example of a leader, like we talked about already. Um he's led great teams, his team is great every year. There's a crazy statistic where Tom Brady never played a football game where he was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, which is great. Like all his teams are good. And so that's that's not by accident. Um and I also try to model my game after him because I'm not the most athletic guy. He's not the most athletic guy. He'll admit that, right? But um, it's the little things that he does of like knowing defenses and how to how to counter those defenses, um being able to change plays when he needs to, uh, being able to recognize matchups that are favorable on the field for him and his team, and uh, and then again just being a leader by example. He's a lot more vocal, I think, than I am. So maybe I can get a little more vocal. But yeah, and he's the greatest of all time. So you gotta set the bar high.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. No, that's super awesome. Tom Brady, he really he really was a great leader. He's someone that really sticks out to any football fan, really. There are those that hate him, those that love him, and it's because he's great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right? Either way, you gotta recognize the greatness.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Um now kind of switching topics over to the gospel. Uh I'll come back to to that, but uh how have growing up, obviously succeeding in sports, obviously you got here. How have you been able to keep Christ in your life? What's the what things do you do to help you always remember Jesus Christ?
SPEAKER_01Um, I first want to shout out my parents for instilling the gospel in me, um, making it an emphasis to um participate in everything that you can that uh the gospel has to offer, right? Going to church and and going to your activities and doing all those little things growing up. So shout out mom and dad. Um I think uh one of the biggest things that helps me uh is prayer. Okay. I love prayer. Um and I had it for a while, I wasn't very good at it for a long time, you know, hit and miss, right? You say a prayer and then you wait a couple of days and then you say another one. And um, but I've really tried to pray daily and I've gotten a lot better at it. But I've seen um the blessings that it has just to talk to to your Heavenly Father and just tell him anything you want. I love one of my bishop back home told me that uh it's just like talking to your best friend because he wants to know everything. He already knows everything, yeah, but he wants you to tell him because that's that's a conversation that he wants to have with you, and and so it's it's such a blessing to be able to have that communication with him. And so I've been able to recognize that I think that helps me keep him at the center, is what I'm talking to him.
SPEAKER_00That's super awesome. Oh, yeah. Um, that reminds me a lot about what we talked about with Emma's prayer. Um, because she's battling an injury, and I know you've battled a couple injuries this season.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, unfortunately.
SPEAKER_00Um, but she's she talked a lot about the power of prayer and how that helps her overcome and even her teammates gathering together to pray for her as they're racing, which is something super interesting to me. Um, but I'm kind of curious. I know a lot of teams here at SVU, I know our golf team and the cross-country team do it, but does the football team pray as a team before every game?
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00What what is that like? What's the atmosphere like around that team prayer?
SPEAKER_01It's a it's a special spirit. I think it's really cool. Um, it's an opportunity where, like, you know, not everybody is of the faith, not everybody's of a Christian denomination, but um I think it's cool that we have coaches that emphasize prayer in general. Um and so it's a special team spirit. We sing a song um before we pray too. There's a a Polynesian hymn that we have a Polynesian D-Lyman coach, and so he taught us a Polynesian hymn that we sing, and uh the translation is like uh Jesus promises, and that the song basically says that like if we um do what we're supposed to do and keep our end, you know, of the promise that Jesus will multiply that tenfold. And so we sing that and then we pray, and it's awesome to hear it's awesome to hear teammates that you don't usually hear pray. Yeah, and it's cool because um prayers are different, but essentially, you know, they're the same. You know, when you boil it down, it's it's just talking to God and asking him for things that we want and um things that we're grateful for and things that we look forward to, and and you end it in the name of Christ, and it's as simple as that, and it's awesome every time. It's way cool.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's super awesome. I love the the part where you talked about the hymn, obviously, and how that talks about how as you go out and do what Jesus wants you to do, he'll multiply that, right? I remember hearing a story once upon a time where it was just a story of this man. He was asked by God to go out and just push a stone. A giant stone that was impossible to move by yourself, right? And he went out every single day, never moved, because a man cannot push a stone that big. But he kept doing it because God asked him to. And by the time God told him, Okay, you're done, like you don't need to push it anymore, he's like, Why did I do that? Like, there's no reason for that. The stone didn't move over the months that I did that for. But God said, look at yourself, you're stronger, you're more mentally tough because you went out and did those things. And I know that that's kind of a broad example, but it's something very unique to us too. Yeah. Cause you talk about the simple power of prayer, but it really is something huge, right? It is. We talk about prayer being a small thing that we need to do daily. But those small things that we do daily are really the big things because that's how we that's how our prayers are answered. That's how questions are answered, that's how we receive what we need to receive, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the faith that we build over time by consistently praying. That's how you get the answers. I love that.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. And it's just, I don't know, that's uh something I love about SVU and the the faith aspect here is because so many people are um believers of Christ and a lot of the coaches are as well, which means that they're gonna try and apply that to their team, right? And so as a football team, as you said, there are many that aren't even believers in Christ, right? But they participate and it's just a special it's a special atmosphere. And that's just that's just super awesome. Um now let's talk a little bit about your coaches, not necessarily your coaches now, but the ones throughout your life and how you've maybe seen differences in them. So right now, obviously, as you said, you have a coach that kind of likes to push the faith, right? To have that around the team.
SPEAKER_01Most definitely.
SPEAKER_00Um and I'm sure maybe throughout your life you've had a coach that hasn't pushed the faith, right? How have you seen the difference in the teams when you have a coach that is pushing faith in Christ and a coach that isn't necessarily?
SPEAKER_01Um I think the biggest thing would be um there's a not as not as great of unity, I think. Um and not to say that um those teams um that maybe didn't push the faith were better or worse, so to speak. They still had great men, the coaches were still great men, you know. Um but I think um being here for two years, um, there's definitely like now looking back on it, you can notice that you know something was missing. And even if like you didn't notice at that time, um I think that because the faith has been so big an emphasis here at SVU, um like looking back to high school teams, you know, you you can definitely tell that that something was missing. So and now I recognize that yeah, that something might have been unity, right? Something to gather around a greater cause than than just yourself.
SPEAKER_00So I love that. I love the right that you added there at the end is the greater cause. Because I think I talked a little bit about this in the first episode, but kind of talk about how we have our sports now, but one day we're gonna hang up the cleats, right? One day we're not gonna put the pads on again. But the one thing that will always stay with us until the end of our life is the gospel of Jesus Christ. So it's really important for especially your coaches here now, how they're trying to help young men or adults, I guess, yeah, kind of grow that faith aspect in their life while they're still playing the sport. Because four years cup runs out and what are they gonna do now?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Not many people move on and keep playing, but somebody can move on and keep having Christ in their life.
SPEAKER_01Most definitely.
SPEAKER_00So it's super awesome how coaches do that, and I think it definitely plays a big role um for those growing up and still trying to learn for themselves. Yeah. Um, and now I have a question kind of going back to a favorite athlete. But what's a favorite athlete that has inspired you not only in how they perform in sports, but how they are spiritually, how they keep their life centered around Christ. I can give an example if you would like me to for me. Um so an athlete for me growing up that I love watching, his name's Tony Fina. He's a golfer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah. I love Tony. Okay.
SPEAKER_00He's been a great example to me of family. He loves his family, he's always with his family. And he always testifies and talks about Jesus Christ, right? He's never gonna turn that down and he will always um he'll always keep that identity with him that he's a son of God. And that just showed that just gives me a great example of a professional athlete who's succeeding at the highest level, but he's keeping his eyes in the right direction with his family and keeping them um going to church every Sunday. I'm sure they pray and read scriptures together as a family too, but it's just it's just so inspiring to me.
SPEAKER_01Very cool. I love that example. Um I'm having a tough time racking my brain with a a football example, but um I think I I think I would just say um there's plenty of of coaches that I've looked up to throughout my high school career. Yeah, I've had plenty of coaches. I don't think I think I had one head coach that lasted two years, but I've had like three head coaches, four head coaches total throughout my high school, but each one of them has been uh a great example, and um I've invited one of them to to come come be a part of bigger like advancements in the gospel, and because he's a great example to me, Coach Miller and uh the person that he is and um so yeah, so I don't have a pro example, but Coach Miller's been a great example of that.
SPEAKER_00That's awesome. No, it really because sometimes those athletes, yes, they inspire us, but they don't always stand out sometimes, right? Sometimes, yeah. Um for me, some football players, obviously I'm a BYU fan. So I always go back to BYU and those roots. So kind of seeing the athletes that come out of BYU, one that stands out to I think a lot of football fans is Taysom Hill.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right?
SPEAKER_00He's someone that was in college, I'm pretty sure, until he was like 25. Yeah, but he just kept playing, and it's super awesome where he got himself to, but he also keeps that Christ-centered life. Um, and there's just so many examples, and it's just it's really inspiring and it's really important for us to see these athletes and how they they're still succeeding while keep up keeping Jesus Christ at the center of their lives.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Another example is Jimmer. Exactly. Just so I could throw one out there and not feel that's awesome. No, Jimmer's a great example. Jimmer being able to play on the biggest stage, right? The Olympics. That's that's way cool. Yeah. Playing the Olympics, and that's awesome. Anyway, yeah.
SPEAKER_00No, that's super awesome. Thank you. Um now, sorry. Kind of going back to we're gonna talk a little about a little bit about injuries. Um I kind of explained an injury I had with my knee when I was in high school and how God kind of helped and guide me guided me through that and helped me overcome that. But I kind of want to hear, because you've been battling a couple different injuries this season, right? Kind of explain to us how you're trying to get through that and how you've come back from that and are playing again.
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, just uh great supporting cast here at SU, and I'm grateful for you know all the trainers and coaches that that uh you know try to get me healthy as quick as possible. But I think uh one of the biggest things is um uh faith in Christ and more specifically faith in his priesthood and his priesthood power. Um, you know, I've definitely had my fair share of blessings this semester and and um that's one of the I think the biggest parts of my testimony that's grown being out here is um what power and and what a what a blessing it truly is to be able to um hold the priesthood and and be able to exercise it because it it's here for it's here to be exercised, it's here to bless others. That's what that's what it's here for. And so to be able to receive um those blessings, but also be able to give, you know, those blessings to other people that may need it. Um it's been such a such a humbling experience to be able to know that you know Heavenly Father trusts me with something like that, but also is willing to help me with injuries and you know I've had a bad shoulder and and also a bad knee, but you know, I think um those blessings have definitely played a part in a quicker recovery for sure. Um I'd I'd be lying if I said I didn't.
SPEAKER_00So Yeah, no, for sure, it definitely injuries aren't fun. Every athlete knows that. Not at all. And most athletes will experience them at some point in their lives or in their careers. And it really is important for us to turn to Christ, right? Because He's the master healer, right? He's the one that will help us to overcome that and to become stronger, even. Um I saw that with my knee injury when I I had that um dent fracture, but I came back and my leg got a lot stronger, a lot faster than I thought it would have, because I was doing my best to keep. Christ at the center of my life. And it really is awesome to see how fast, how fast He works when we turn to Him and trust Him in His priesthood, right? It's just something that's super special and important for athletes to understand that if we're hurt and we're struggling, whether it be physically or even mentally, sports are so mental and it's just so hard for for us to keep our heads straight sometimes. Yeah. But as we keep Christ at the center, He'll help us and He'll strengthen us through that, right? For sure. Um earlier you talked a little bit about how your parents were such a huge example and how they had you always participating in prayer, scripture study, activities. Yeah. We're gonna kind of talk about the activities because many youth going through church, they have activities, but as we kind of go throughout the world, they're kind of different, right?
SPEAKER_01For sure.
SPEAKER_00What kind of activities did you appreciate when you were growing up and that kind of helped you grow as a person, I guess?
SPEAKER_01Um obviously I loved any time. We played sports. I appreciated those a lot.
SPEAKER_00Those sports activities seemed to get the most people going, right?
SPEAKER_01Yep, yep. Um I think I think my favorite activities were like um just the the random ones, like the miscellaneous. I remember one that comes to mind right now is like around Christmas time. Obviously, Christmas is a great um opportunity to serve, and so um we did a lot of service stuff. Um, but we also did like some funny like uh exchange um thing. It was like I don't know what it's called, but you would start with a penny, right? And then you like go around and see if you could trade something. Um, like I'll give you this penny for like a pen, right? And then you get a pen, and then you gotta trade the pen for something and see who gets like the weirdest or coolest item or whatever. And I remember um me and my group, like we got like a we ended up trading for like a broken like washing machine, I think. So we carted that down to the church. I was really disappointed that we lost. I don't know what beat us, but I just know we lost, and I was really bummed out. Yeah, um, but I think it's like a lot of those fun, miscellaneous activities where like you just get an opportunity to um hang out with your ward. I think uh being able to participate in in ward activities is such an underrated and and maybe sometimes overlooked part of the church because a ward family can have such a great influence too. Yeah. Um, especially when you're growing up and there's there's kids your age and um with similar um interests and and responsibilities and and whatnot, there's so much you can relate to um that I think just being able to to grow with them spiritually and um can be a a big part of someone's testimony.
SPEAKER_00No, that's super awesome. I remember for me too, the activities were my favorite. I think I love searching for the areas where I'll feel close to Christ. I participated a lot in scouting growing up, and one of my favorite things was camping. Yeah. Not only because I would get away for a weekend is one of the few times I was able to do sleepovers, right? Yeah. Have spend more time with friends, but it was an opportunity to be in nature around God's creations, right? And that's by far one of my favorite things. That's one of the places I feel closest to God. So like I love hiking, I just love being outdoors in the trees, in the woods, whatever it is. It's beautiful. It's just something, it's a unique opportunity to feel close to God or just being outside, right? Um question I kind of have building off of that is how do you um as a student athlete, how do you find opportunities like that to keep Christ in your life? To maybe get away or even just have a little moment to yourself to just pray. What are what are the things that you like to do?
SPEAKER_01Um I'm very grateful for uh having my own room. I know that's kind of a uh not not very common here on campus, but um it always gives me opportunity to to read a little bit, um, to pray whenever I need to. And um I've had people um come in and and do like scripture studies like with other guys, and um so that's been uh a little underrated blessing. I will also say that like just being able to go on walks, like even here campus is so campus is beautiful. Um I love taking walks up to the field for practice. I live at the lofts, and so like to walk up the trail, um, to go up to practice, like that's just an awesome little awesome little 10-minute refresher and and just be able to enjoy nature like like how you enjoy camping because of that reason. Like, I think um I kind of enjoy that as well. I don't camp as much, but but yeah, definitely enjoy the hikes and and things like that. So um I'd also say I appreciate the the effort that my ward uh has to put together activities. Sometimes I'm not able to attend because of sports, but um I know that that other people enjoy enjoy those things and it's always a refresher uh to just get out and not be able to worry about your performance on the field or worry about your grades or worry about anything like that, you know, just a quick little hour to hang out with some friends, like it's it can be such a such a refresher sometimes. And I think when you have like the right group of friends and and the right group of people around you, like um I think that can bring Christ into your life um at any given point in time, right? You never know when when the conversation can switch to something spiritual and um you know someone starts sharing a testimony or faith or experience that they had, and so um I am I'm definitely always uh grateful for for the people here on campus and the people around me. Um because because they have Christ-centered lives, I know that Christ can be at the center of my life at any point in time whenever I bump into somebody.
SPEAKER_00So that's awesome. Well, that is really like you said, that's the really awesome thing about SVU. And another word I I really like that you keep using is refresher, right? It's kind of interesting to think about what things are refreshing, because oftentimes we think about when we're underneath the hot sun, we go grab a lemonade or a nice, nice cold drink, right? That's refreshing. But when we think about the gospel of Jesus Christ as a refresher, it's kind of an interesting aspect there, right? Yeah, but I love that so much because there are times we're stressed. We're stressed about school, we're stressed about sports, we don't know what to do next, like what's the next step in life? But but when we have the gospel of Jesus Christ, that can kind of slow us down, calm us down a little bit, right? Yeah, it's nice and refreshing. Yeah, I love that. Um now talking a little bit about campus and having your ward family and all their activities right now. What's what's a way that you do or you try your best to testify of Jesus Christ? Last week we talked a lot about um never giving up the opportunity to testify of Jesus Christ. So how do you how would you say you do that?
SPEAKER_01Um man, I think um I think it relates to to what I said earlier about you know being a leader on the field by example. I think just again being around campus and being around um I guess not being around, but but coming into contact with with people on a daily basis and and people I don't know very well, but just being an example of of Christ-like love, you know, of charity.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um trying to be the friendliest person I can be, no matter what's going on in my life and no matter what if I'm on the highest of highs or the lowest of lows, like you know, um Christ had some high highs, but he had some low lows. But but you would never know because he's um he's the greatest example of of love and how we need to treat others and um and be be there for them. And so I think um just trying to always put a smile on and always say hello and and make sure that you know, even if it's a quick conversation, that everybody feels seen some somehow.
SPEAKER_00That's awesome. I love that. It really is. I love I love the simple things of the gospel, right? Doing the simple acts of kindness, smiling. I love I think smiling is one of the most important things a person can do. For sure. Right? A smile will help you better understand if someone's having a good day or not, right? Yeah. And it's really important for us to just give someone a smile, right? Um so kind of wrapping up things here, we're gonna go to our final two little segments that we do. Sweet. Okay. Um, so first I'm gonna have you kind of give your best piece of advice to an athlete who's trying to stay on the path right now.
SPEAKER_01Gotcha. Um I think the the first thing is trust yourself. Um, you know, have confidence in what you know and and your ability. Um, and obviously we're continuing to learn and grow every single day, but um the trust in the things that you believe and and know to be right, um, and I think to build off that um trust Heavenly Father. Right, it's always a a working progress to grow our relationship with him and be able to uh um see what he has in store for us, and so sometimes you need a little bit of blind faith, but um I think being being out here in in college and um I've had a lot of blind faith, but it it's worked out so far, and and I I don't doubt that it'll continue to work out for the rest of my life, no matter how hard it gets. So trust trust trust yourself and trust Heavenly Father, I think is what that boils down to.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, that's awesome. It's I like the the blind faith you you you use there because really a lot of the times when we're going off to college, it's kind of a blind thing, right? A lot of the times we're going out for the first time by ourselves and we don't know what's gonna happen, we don't know where we're gonna end up. But as we trust God, as we trust our Heavenly Father, it's really gonna show us um it's gonna try us, right? It's gonna be a challenge.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00But nothing ever comes easy, right? Nothing was life was not easy for Jesus Christ. Yeah. So why should it be easy for us? And it's just important for us to have that faith to remember him, make sure we're keeping him in our lives as we're trying to succeed in school, as we're trying to succeed in the sport, as we're trying to create different relationships. There's just a whole lot going on. But we always need to remember our most important relationship, which is with our Father in heaven.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Um, so I love that. That's a great piece of advice.
SPEAKER_01Thank you.
SPEAKER_00And then try my best. And then I'm gonna have you share your favorite Bible verse for us.
SPEAKER_01Sweet. Uh I actually switched it from what I uh I wanted to share originally. Um I think I think I was definitely prompted to switch it. I think this these scriptures have uh a better um better connection to athletics and a better connection to um like the grind of of a season and and whatnot. But it's in it's in Romans chapter five, um uh two through we're gonna go two through five. Uh but by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations, also knowing that tribulation worketh patience, and patience experience, and experience hope, and hope maketh not ashamed, because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Um I love these verses because uh in the end of verse 2 it says, We rejoice in hope of the glory of God. But verse 3 says, Not only do we glory in the hope of God, and not only do we hope that God can do great things for us, but we need to glory in our tribulations. Yeah. Because our our hardcomings, not only in life, but in athletics, um, the things that we experience that are hard, the things that uh maybe it's injury that we like we talked about, maybe it's not starting at your position, maybe it's um not knowing what sport to play if you're like a multi-sport athlete, right? Those tribulations you experience, you need to glory in those as well, because from those tribulations come patience, from that patience comes experience, and then that experience translates to hope. And I think that's I think that's so cool. Um but yeah, Romans 5, 2 through 5.
SPEAKER_00Romans 5, 2 through 5. Those are all that's awesome. Great scriptures, great. Uh it's really been a great time. Thank you so much for your time. Yeah, man.
SPEAKER_01Thank you for having me. Thank you.
SPEAKER_00It's been awesome kind of hearing your story, where you've come from and how you've gotten here. Yeah. So thanks for taking this time and being here with me today.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I appreciate you. It's been awesome. Yeah, so thank you. Yeah, and shout out mom and dad. Again, I have to do that. There was one time I was on a podcast and uh I got a text from my mom after she watched it and she said it you for real. And I was like, I'm sorry. So shout out mom and dad.
SPEAKER_00That's awesome. Yeah, and I want to thank everyone again for tuning in for another week of On the Path. And remember to just always keep Christ at the center and to do your best to study your scriptures daily, to pray, and to really just have that conversation to talk about God. As we talked about today, we talked a lot about unity and prayer. Those are two things that will really help you to stay with God. So remember those close around you, have them continue to build you up as you have this relationship with God. So thank you again, everyone, and always remember to stay on the path.
